KALIHIWAI – Firefighters responded to a structure fire in Kalihiwai that broke out early Friday morning at a residence on Kalihiwai Valley Road.
No injuries were reported.
Firefighters from the Hanalei, Kaiākea, and Kapa‘a fire stations responded to the incident, along with Rescue 3, the on-duty Battalion Chief, and the Kaua‘i Fire Prevention Bureau.
First responders were dispatched to the scene at approximately 4:40 a.m. upon reports of a possible shed on fire. Once on scene, firefighters found a dwelling unit separate from the main residence fully engulfed in flames.
Firefighters quickly gained control of the fire using tank water, and then utilized a nearby stream to set up a trash pump and fully extinguish the blaze.
The structure was unoccupied with no electrical power.
Kaua‘i Fire Prevention Bureau inspectors estimate damage to the structure and its contents to be roughly $100,000.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
