Firefighters respond to two incidents in Kōke‘e Wednesday

KŌKE‘E – Kaua‘i Fire Department firefighters conducted two rescues in Kōke‘e on Wednesday.
The first incident involved a 46-year-old female visitor from California who was rescued from Waipo‘o Falls in Kōke‘e.
One person was injured and admitted to the Kaua‘i Veterans Memorial Hospital in stable condition.
According to a preliminary report, KFD personnel received a report from Kaua‘i Police Department Dispatch at approximately 1 p.m. of an injured hiker.
Personnel with the Waimea and Hanapēpē fire stations, Rescue 3, and American Medical Response responded to the incident.
When firefighters arrived on scene at approximately 1:45 p.m., they discovered a hiker with a knee injury accompanied by her husband on the Waipo‘o Falls Trail. Firefighters carried the woman to Truck 7 and transported her to awaiting AMR personnel. AMR medics continued treatment on the California woman before transporting her to Kaua‘i Veterans Memorial Hospital.
Firefighters cleared the scene at approximately 2:30 p.m.
The second incident involved two visitors from Iowa who were rescued from the Kukui Trail in Kōke‘e.
KFD personnel received a report of the incident at approximately 3 p.m., involving two hikers in distress.
No injuries were reported.
Personnel with the Hanapēpe and Waimea fire stations, Rescue 3 aboard Air 1, and the on-duty Battalion Chief responded to the incident.
At approximately 3:30 p.m., firefighters arrived on the scene and spoke to the hikers' daughter. Once they determined the hikers' whereabouts, Rescue 3 aboard Air 1 loaded and transported them to a landing spot at the trailhead. The hikers declined medical treatment.
The scene was cleared shortly before 4:20 p.m.
