MOLOA‘A – Police responded to a single-vehicle traffic incident that occurred on Tuesday, May 21, which resulted in the closure of Kūhiō Highway in Moloa‘a.
At approximately 9:15 p.m., a Nissan truck with a single occupant was traveling northbound on Kūhiō Highway when the vehicle left the roadway and struck the embankment. The driver, a 21-year-old male of Kīlauea, was ejected from the vehicle.
Police and medics responded to the scene. The driver was medevaced to the Queens Medical Center, where he remains in serious condition.
Kūhiō Highway was closed in both directions for approximately three hours while the Kauaʽi Police Department’s Traffic Safety Section conducted an on-scene investigation. Speed and impairment do not appear to be factors in the crash.
