OED launches Coconut Rhinoceros Beetle resource page
Published on April 11, 2025
LĪHU‘E – The County of Kaua‘i’s Office of Economic Development (OED) has launched a new resource page to provide the community with vital information about the Coconut Rhinoceros Beetle (CRB), an invasive pest that threatens Kaua‘i’s environment, agriculture, and way of life.
Visit the CRB resource page at kauaiforward.com/coconut-rhinoceros-beetle.
The new Coconut Rhinoceros Beetle webpage serves as a central hub for residents, farmers, and businesses to learn how to identify CRB, take action, and report possible infestations. It includes photo references of beetles and damage, tips for prevention, reporting tools, and updates from local and state partners working to combat the spread of CRB.
“CRB is a serious threat to our island’s natural resources and local economy,” said Nalani Brun, Director of the Office of Economic Development. “By creating this resource page, we aim to give our community the tools they need to be informed, stay alert, and act quickly.”
In addition to the website, the public is encouraged to follow @KuiKauai on Instagram. The account, run by the Office of Economic Development, shares updates not only about CRB—including how to detect it, what to do if you see it, and where to find help—but also features highlights from other OED projects and initiatives.
“Community awareness is one of the most powerful tools we have in the fight against invasive species,” Brun added. “We invite everyone to learn more on the website and stay connected with us on Instagram.”
The public can also follow @KuiKauai on Instagram for ongoing updates, tips, and information.
