Building Board of Appeals

The Building Board of Appeals hears and determines appeals from the decisions of the Building Official in the administration of the County of Kauai Building Code, Electrical Code, Sign Ordinance and Plumbing Code, involving any denial of the use of new or alternate materials, types of construction, equipment, devices or appliances.

The Board consists of seven at-large members appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by the County Council to staggered three year terms. Members will have experience and training pertaining to building construction and fire safety including one member that is registered as an engineer or architect with the state of Hawai‘i Board of Registration of Professional Engineers, Architects, Land Surveyors and Landscape Architects, one member with electrical work knowledge, one member with plumbing work knowledge, one member with construction work knowledge, two members with fire safety knowledge, and one at-large member.
