Storing a Registered Vehicle

Storing a Registered Vehicle

If you will not be using your registered vehicle for a period of time, you may place your vehicle in an official “storage” status. By doing so, you will be exempt from payment of future registration fees and taxes until such time you remove the vehicle from storage.

Step 2.Surrender the vehicle's current license plates and emblem.

Step 3.Submit your current Certificate of Registration.

Step 4.Payment of appropriate fees if registration is not current. The fees will be determined by the Customer Service Representative.

The vehicle's registration will be stamped “Storage” to indicate the license plates have been surrendered and the vehicle is in an official “storage” status.

Reinstating a Stored Vehicle

If you would like to take your vehicle out of storage you must:

Step 2.Have a picture ID.

Step 3.Submit your copy of the Statement of Fact for Stored Vehicles(PDF, 64KB).

Step 4.You will be charged a prorated registration fee.

Step 5.If your vehicle has been in storage for 6 months or longer, you will need to fill out our Application for Replacement License Plate or Emblem(PDF, 109KB) and pay $5.00 fee.
