Investigative Services Bureau

Overview

The Investigative Services Bureau consists of three separate sections having both similar and distinctly different law enforcement responsibilities.

An Assistant Chief is the highest ranking officer in this bureau, a Police Captain is second in command.

The General Crimes Section follows up on investigations that are referred by the Patrol Services Bureau, and initiates their own investigations when appropriate. They investigate all types of crimes against persons, whether juvenile or adult, ranging from Petty Misdemeanors to Class A Felonies to include, but not limited to, domestic violence and missing persons. The section is further divided into three (3) separate units; the Major Crimes Unit, the Sex Crimes Unit and the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Unit.

When fully staffed, the personnel assigned to this section include:

  • One (1) Lieutenant
  • Three (3) Major Crimes Detective Sergeants
  • Three (3) Sex Crimes Detective Sergeants
  • One (1) ICAC Detective Sergeant
  • One (1) Criminalist
  • Three (3) Crime Scene Specialists
  • Six (6) Sex Assault Nurse Examiners (SANE)

The Special Focus Section follows up on investigations that are referred to it by the Patrol Services Bureau, and initiates their own investigations when appropriate. They investigate all types of crimes against property, ranging from Petty Misdemeanors to Class A Felonies. The section is further divided into two (2) separate units; the Property Crimes Unit and the White Collar Crimes Unit.

When fully staffed, the personnel assigned to this section include:

  • One (1) Lieutenant
  • Five (5) Property Crime Detective Sergeants
  • One (1) White Collar Crime Detective Sergeant
  • One (1) Program Specialist

The Vice Section initiates and/or follows up on all drug related investigations. This includes drug trafficking interdiction, marijuana eradication, and covert operations.

Investigations are not limited to the confines of the County. Major cases have been successfully pursued throughout the State, Nation, and Foreign Countries. This section also investigates organized crime, gambling, money laundering, racketeering, and prostitution.
