Appliance Self-Repair

  

The County of Kaua‘i encourages reuse over recycling whenever possible. Reuse not only saves you money, it saves our natural resources, and reduces the amount of waste that goes to our landfill.

There are many online resources for self-repair of appliances and other items around the home, some even provided by the manufacturer.

Whenever making a self-repair, please ensure that you're taking all the proper health and safety precautions. Follow manufacturer recommendation where applicable, and or hire a licensed or certified professional if needed. 

Appliance Recycling

Appliances, otherwise known as "white goods" are enamel-coated electrical and mechanical household appliances made primarily of metals. White goods on Kaua‘i are separated, processed, and recycled for scrap metal.

They are segregated into two categories: Type 1 - containing no refrigerant (i.e. water heaters, clothes washers and dryers, stoves and ranges), and Type 2 - containing refrigerant (i.e. refrigerators, freezers or air conditioners).

Please make every effort to reuse appliances by repairing or donating them prior to disposal. Please empty refrigerators, of food prior to drop off.

White goods from Commercial sources must be transported to the Puhi Metals Recycling Facility 3951 Puhi Road. White goods with refrigerants are accepted for a fee of $20 per unit. For other items and charges see the estimated price list(PDF, 278KB).
