Firefighters extinguish structure fire Friday

LĪHU‘E – Kaua‘i Fire Department firefighters extinguished a structure fire in Līhu‘e on Friday, June 21.
No injuries were reported.
Firefighters were dispatched to a report of a structure fire at the former Līhu‘e Plantation Company Sugar Mill near Kaumuali‘i Highway in Līhu‘e on Friday shortly after 12:25 p.m.
Personnel with the Līhu‘e Fire Station, the Fire Prevention Bureau, and the Kaua‘i Police Department responded to the incident.
According to a preliminary report, upon arrival at approximately 12:30 p.m., firefighters discovered a one-story, unpermitted structure fully engulfed in flames. The fire was controlled and extinguished shortly after arrival.
After firefighters extinguished the fire, KFD Fire Prevention Bureau investigators took over the scene and conducted an investigation.
Firefighters cleared the scene shortly before 1:20 p.m.
Damages to the structure and contents are estimated at $1,500.
The cause of the fire is undetermined.
