Firefighters extinguish structure fire in Kapa‘a Tuesday

KAPA‘A – Kaua‘i Fire Department firefighters extinguished a structure fire in Kapa‘a on Tuesday.
No injuries were reported. The American Red Cross is assisting five displaced individuals and one displaced pet.
Firefighters were dispatched to a report of a structure fire on Kahuna Road in Kapa‘a on Tuesday at approximately 4:15 p.m.
Personnel with the Kapa‘a and the Kaiakea fire stations, the Fire Prevention Bureau, Kaua‘i Island Utility Cooperative, the Department of Public Works, and the Kaua‘i Police Department responded to the incident.
According to a preliminary report, upon arrival shortly after 4:20 p.m., firefighters discovered a one-story structure fully engulfed in flames. While firefighters were battling the fire, electrical and gas utilities were shut off.
After firefighters controlled and extinguished the fire, KFD Fire Prevention Bureau investigators took over the scene and conducted an investigation.
Firefighters cleared the scene shortly after 9:35 p.m.
Damages to the structure and contents are estimated at $750,000.
The cause of the fire is undetermined.
