LĪHU‘E – The Kaua’i Police Department is hosting a free community event for parents to have their keiki’s car seat inspected by trained technicians on June 24. The event will take place at Vidinha Stadium from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in conjunction with the Kaua’i Police Activities League flag football games.

Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death among children in the United States. Correct usage of a child restraint reduces the risk of injury by 71%-82%. The size and age of a child vary the need for different types of restraints.

Lt. Jason Overmyer of the Traffic Safety Section says, “Car seats can be difficult for many parents, and the needs change as children grow. We are here to answer any questions and ensure drivers keep their keiki safe.”

Appointments are not required for the event but can be made with Officer Joseph Himongala at (808) 241-1617. Those unable to attend can visit https://www.safekids.org/ for additional resources on car seat safety.

If you need an auxiliary aid/service or other accommodation for this event due to a disability, contact the Traffic Safety Section at (808) 241 -1610 as soon as possible. Requests made as early as possible will allow adequate time to fulfill your request. Upon request, this notice is available in alternate formats such as large print, Braille, or electronic copy.
