KALAHEO – The Department of Water (DOW) and its contractor, Hawaiian Dredging Construction Company, Inc. (HDCCI) announces intermittent lane closures on Pu’uwai Road and a road closure on a portion of Pu’uwai Road being implemented now through Sept. 4, 2023, weather permitting to perform work for the Kalaheo Water Systems Improvements Project (WSIP).

Excavation and waterline work is being conducted at the intersection of Pu’uwai Road and Kikala Road and at the intersection of Pu’uwai Road and Po’ohiwi Road.

Residents, pedestrians and motorists are advised to adhere to traffic control and flagger personnel at the following areas:

  • Lane closures on Pu’uwai Road – Partial lane closures will be in place on Pu’uwai Road at the intersections of Po’ohiwi Road and Kikala Road, and from the north-end of Pu’uwai Road to Pu’ulima Road.  The lane closure will occur during the hours of 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday to Friday.  Flagger personnel will be in place to assist with traffic flow.
  • Local traffic only on Po’ohiwi Road – Due to the narrow road way, an intermittent road closure with access to local traffic only will be in place on Po’ohiwi Road during the hours of 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday to Friday.  Flagger personnel will be in place to assist residents with access.
  • Road closure on a portion of Pu’uwai Road – A road closure is being implemented on Pu’uwai Road from the intersection of Pu’ulima Road to the end of Pu’uwai Road, 24-hours a day, seven days a week.  This portion of Pu’uwai Road is an unpaved road, without residential or commercial dwellings, therefore, no vehicle or pedestrian access and no parking will be allowed in the work zone.  Road closure signs and barriers will be posted.
