Multiagency search suspended for missing Anahola woman

LĪHUʻE – A three-day multiagency search has been suspended Thursday evening for a missing Anahola woman in waters off Lumaha‘i Beach in Hanalei.

Benetta Kaiwi, a 47-year-old female of Anahola, was last seen Monday, Oct. 7.

According to a preliminary report, first responders located her unattended vehicle about 100 feet down a cliff near Lumaha‘i Beach following reports of a crash around 8:45 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 7.

Personnel with the Kaua‘i Police Department, Kaua‘i Fire Department, the U.S. Coast Guard, and the Ocean Safety Bureau responded to the incident. Air, land, and sea searches were conducted through Thursday evening. 

"Our thoughts are with Benetta Kaiwi's loved ones during this incredibly difficult time. We sincerely appreciate the efforts of everyone involved in the search, especially in the challenging conditions we faced. Mahalo to all our search partners for their unwavering support over the past three days,” said Assistant Chief Kalani Ke.
